About The Journal's special report We may drive by it every day, look at it as the sun is setting or enjoy its cool breezes. It may have been one of the reasons we decided to move to Ithaca. It may be one of the reasons we stay.Or Cayuga Lake may play a more active role in our lives. We may sail on it, take a dip in mid-August, or paint its scenes on canvas.Whatever our interaction with the lake, it defines our region. So it makes sense to pay it some attention. The last time The Journal did a special section on the lake was 1983, before Lake Source Cooling, before the Cayuga Lake Watershed Management Plan. It's time for another in-depth look, which we present here. In this section, we include information to help readers learn more about the health of the lake. We write about what and who lives in and around the lake, impacts on the lake and what the future holds. We also tell you some of the less-serious stories about the lake -- from tales of lake monsters to tips for snagging the biggest fish. We realize that we can't include everything there is to know about the lake and how it affects our lives. But we hope the information here offers something new for everyone about Tiohero, our "clear water." |
