CRT offers drama workshops for kids

From Cortland Ticket staff reports.

CORTLAND -- Cortland Repertory Theatre and the "CRT Kids" Program is offering a variety of workshop programs for students of all ages during the coming summer months.

For the fifth year, CRT offers the "Stars of Tomorrow" Theatrical Workshops for Youth. Open to kids in grades five-12, students will learn everything about theater: Acting, improvisation, scenic/lighting/costume design, theatre games, make-up, scene development and analysis and much more, while working together to produce a final presentation on Saturday, July 23.

This fun-filled and educational program, co-sponsored by Tully Parks and Recreation, will be held from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, June 27 through July 23 at Tully High School.

Taught by Tully High drama teacher Bill Coughlin, the workshops will also be visited by designers, actors and performing interns working at Cortland Rep this summer. Attendance and payments may be made at $15 per day, $50 per week or in one lump sum of $175 for the entire season.

Also this summer, Cortland Repertory Theatre offers a brand new program, the "Showstoppers and Superstars" Music Theatre Adventure Camp. This program is available for students in kindergarten through grade five in the 2004-'05 school year.

Taught by New York City visiting guest artists Tammy Holder (music director) and Joanna Greer (choreographer), this is a processed-based musical theatre workshop in which students develop skills -- acting, singing, dancing -- and through music theatre also learn teamwork, self-esteem building and cooperation.

The "Showstoppers" program, for students in kindergarten through second grade, will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. August 1-6 at the Homer Center for the Arts, 70 Main Street in Homer. The "Superstars" are students in grades three through five and will meet from 2-5 p.m. August 1-6 at the Center for the Arts in Homer. A final presentation will be held Saturday, August 6. The fee is $100 per student.

For more information or to sign up, call CRT at 753-6161. Space is limited in all programs.
