CORTLAND -- Join in the wacky, team-oriented fun at the McGraw Bed Race, held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 16 at the Community Day celebration, sponsored by the McGraw Methodist Church.
Sign-ups are now open for the event, which will take place on Main Street in the village. Bed Race teams will consist of five members: four runners and one rider.
Bed construction does not need to be an original bed, but must mimic a real bed in appearance by including a headboard and footboard. With four wheels and no brakes, the beds will be pushed to two designated areas for a team run around the bed before they reach the finish line.
The rider will exit the bed and remove his or her pajamas while another team member dresses in those pajamas. This race will be a combination of endurance, strategy, teamwork and loads of fun.
Companies, civic organizations, school groups or a group of friends are encouraged to join this crazy race, which will benefit the church's stained glass window project. The entry fee is $25. There will be three classes: kids 17 and younger, adults (older than 17) full size and adults (older than 17) non-standard.
Trophies will be awarded for the three places in the fastest bed, funniest bed and best costumes categories.
For an entry form and rules and regulations for the race, contact Randy Thibeault at 756-7702 or Rick Dorman at 863-3888.
