Gabriel Tavares

Best known as guitarist for Plastic Nebraska (www.plasticnebraska.com), Gabriel Tavares impressed local music fans with his solo CD, "Cipher," released in 2001 by I-Town Records (www.itownrecords.com). The largely acoustic effort features droning tones, stomping rhythms, and Tavares' strong vocals. Elements from South Indian music--tabla playing by Steven Curtis and traditional south Indian vocals by Sri Priya Sundararajan--also play an important role.

Tavares will return to the Lost Dog Lounge Friday night to play a solo show.

Besides continuing to perform with Plastic Nebraska and playing guitar with Jennie Stearns, Tavares has formed a new band, The Thins, with AJ Strauss of The Sutras and Plastic Nebraska drummer Brian Dudla. The trio has reworked some of Tavares' solo material as well as written some new songs.
